An Exciting Few Weeks in the World of Encaustic Art

Writer's picture: Melanie WilliamsMelanie Williams

The past few weeks have been an incredible whirlwind of opportunities!

Today, Thursday 29th February, I had the privilege of chatting with Aled Hughes on BBC Radio Cymru about my encaustic painting. It was a fantastic experience to share my passion for this unique art form, demonstrating how I create my encaustic medium and colours. I also showed Aled how I use a blowtorch and various hot and cold tools to manipulate the wax, either smoothing it out or carving into it to create texture and depth. If you speak Welsh, you can listen to our conversation here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0ksf0mk

As if that wasn’t exciting enough, I was also lucky enough to be featured in the Welsh magazine Golwg just two weeks ago! The article highlights the rise of encaustic art across Europe and my own journey with the medium. You can read it here: https://golwg.360.cymru/cylchgrawn/2169066-llosgliwio-grefft-sydd-gynnydd-drwy-ewrop

Its been an amazing time, and I’m so grateful for these opportunities to share my work and raise awareness of encaustic painting. Looking forward to what’s next!
